Stan’s
Cafe is a theatre company with an international reputation
for devising and touring powerful and unusual performances.
They work collaboratively across a range of media from
a base in Birmingham. Since its foundation in 1991 Stan’s
Cafe has run bespoke education projects alongside its
professional programme. These two strands of work inform
each other and often combine.
In 2002 Stan’s Cafe was commissioned to create
a teacher training day for Creative Partnerships, Birmingham
which has subsequently been franchised nationally. In
2003 CP commissioned a large-scale engagement with Castle
Vale school which led to the publication School Rulers.
The company’s relationship with CP subsequently
extended a three year commission to work with a group
of five schools in the Frankley area of Birmingham;
projects there have included PodCasts, an immersive
multi-media sculpture, modal cities built out of fruit
and vegetables, a whole school parade.
