We used an account of power cuts in New York as the stimulus for creative writing in English.

The Day it went wrong!

The day it went wrong,
A day to remember.
The day it went wrong,
A day to truly remember.

The sense of fear and horror in the air,
Crying, screaming for help.
The day it went wrong,
A day to remember.
The darkness falls upon the people,
People running, chaos.
For it’s the day it went wrong,
A day to remember.Day came and no power,
More chaos and horror.
For it’s the day it went wrong,
A day to remember. At last the horror is over,
Light and power again.
For it’s the day it went wrong,
A day to truly remember.

Poem

It was the day that the power went off
Everywhere was quiet and sof’
The lighting went out
Everybody started to shout
In every shop and every store
Their business was no more.

I was on the underground train
And the brakes started to strain
The lights had also gone out
I was terrified without a doubt
I thought of the people in the back
Some could be injured perhaps with a broken back

Children were cuddling their mothers
People were scared, friends, family and others
Everyone ran into their loft
It was the day that the power went off

There were fires everywhere,
I was saving lives with all my love and care,
The trains screeched to a halt
I felt like it was my entire fault
So I am telling you today
How many people were injured I cannot say.

The day is almost over
People were either drunk or sober
The lights had come back on
Every where was as bright as the sun
Everyone was happy
The streets were still crappy.

Our Black-Out Poem

Think of a black-out that happened in
New York,
No food like lamb or pork.
But the most important is losing a life,
When in surgery and under the knife.
There are people screaming and making lots of sound,
When the support of a life is lost and can’t be found.

If a train stops at a halt,
There’s something wrong with the electric vault.
Were in lots of pain,
After we hit our arms on the chair,
But the pain we couldn’t bare.

Being cold is a terrible thing,
Especially when you’re wearing bling, A draft coming as cold as snow,
Where has the heat gone we don’t know?

We were in the park,
Everything just went dark,
It was all silent until the dog started to bark.
The street all deserted,
Except a man across the street being so perverted.

The TV was on and then it was gone in just a blink of an eye,
The pot was boiling and the cooker hot for us to eat a meat pie.

In the fridge the food has gone off,
Don’t eat it or else you’ll cough.

Birmingham Power Cut

There was an awful power cut in the second city. Birmingham. Many people were left traumatised after this terrible event.

This started off as a nice hot day. But when it began to get dark, there was an odious thunderstorm which then led to the dreadful power
cut. For ten hours there was continuously no electricity. Between these desperate hours there was no heating, no lighting when it was dark, there were no fridges or freezers which made the food go off.

So, as you may realize this was a very frightful event.

This (See above left) is a picture of the Bullring when the power cut took place.

As you can see the chaos, caused a lot of alarm and distress.
To find out more there is some information on the BBC website.
